Welcome to the North American Society of Individual Psychology

NASAP and Current Events - A Letter from President Hallie Williams, Sr.

and To the Members of the North American Society of Adlerian Psychology,

Today, we join the global community in observing International Holocaust Remembrance Day. On this anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, we pause to honor the memory of the six million Jews and the millions of others who were systematically targeted and murdered. We extend our deepest respect and empathy to the ancestors of our Jewish members and to the survivors whose resilience continues to inspire us.

In the spirit of Individual Psychology, we recognize that the atrocities of the past were born from the catastrophic failure of Social Interest. Alfred Adler taught us that our well-being is inextricably linked to the well-being of our fellow human beings. When we witness the denial of dignity to any group, we witness a threat to the community as a whole.

As an international society, NASAP is proud to be a home for members of all faiths and ethnicities—including our Muslim, Christian, and Jewish colleagues. Our strength lies in our ability to hold space for one another’s grief and history. By remembering the Holocaust, we do not diminish the suffering of others; rather, we sharpen our collective resolve to ensure that no group is ever marginalized or dehumanized again.

We are also mindful that today’s remembrance occurs during a time of significant tension and pain, including the current unrest in Minneapolis/St. Paul and other communities nationally and internationally. These modern struggles remind us that the work of social justice and reconciliation is never finished. As Adlerians, we are called to be agents of encouragement and healing, applying our principles to build a world where every individual feels a true sense of belonging.

Today, let us renew our commitment to the mission of NASAP: to promote social interest and to challenge any ideology that seeks to divide us. May we honor the past by working tirelessly for a more just and compassionate future.

In Solidarity and Encouragement,

Mr. Hallie M. Williams, Sr.
