Positive Discipline Association Adlerian Series - What the World Needs Now
The Positive Discipline Association is hosting a series of 4 online events on March 22, April 5, April 18, and May 3, 2024. Below is information about the first event on March 22, 2024, which features Dana Edwards.
Session 1 Description
More than ever, post-pandemic, family meetings and class meetings are needed in our homes and schools. These meetings have long been identified by Adlerians as catalysts for developing belonging and significance — both fundamental to our well-being and mental health. This session will explore the Adlerian historical framework, especially related to Dreikurs' work helping parents and teachers understand the purpose of challenging behavior and the importance of implementing family and class meetings. This framework is the foundation on which Jane Nelsen and Lynn Lott developed Positive Discipline in the Classroom. Drawing on Adlerian Psychology and Positive Discipline, examples across diverse groups will be shared to demonstrate the application and usefulness of these meetings. There will be a specific focus on leadership that creates a cohesive and supportive environment of encouragement. Practical recommendations as well as solutions for potential barriers will be shared.

TLC Section Event
The TLC Section will host a conversation about questions coaches ask. The description is below along with the link to register. There are events planned for April 4th and May 30th as well.
Description - If you were privy to the conversations coaches have with their clients, you would hear similar questions and questioning techniques that form the basis of the coaching approach. Like in therapy, some techniques stay consistent over time for each encounter and amongst the profession - even though those questions are adapted and become a personal style of the practitioner overtime. During this session, we will demonstrate, experience and discuss some of those questions coaches ask.

The Big Picture: Simplifying Adlerian Counseling Strategies
Because Adlerian counseling strategies are not manualized/standardized, Adlerian practitioners vary in how they use certain tactics. This can become confusing for new practitioners, as they can get different messages about how to "do" Adlerian counseling. This workshop will seek to simplify these strategies by looking at the 'big picture;' namely, the overall purpose of these tactics. Lifestyle investigation strategies (e.g., exploration of early recollections and/or dreams) will be demonstrated.
Presenter - Calvin Armerding, M.A., LPC-S is a Senior Associate at Travelers Rest Counseling Associates in Travelers Rest, SC, where he counsels young adults, couples, and parents. He also spends time supervising counselors in training, teaching counselors at regional/international conferences and schools, and writing about Adlerian Psychology. He is the author of The Cooperative Family (2021), and also co-founder of The Alfred Adler Fellows Program, a regional post-graduate training program in Adlerian Psychology. In his spare time, Calvin likes to spend time with his two children, and also writes/performs/records his own music.
